Highlights from GC81: June 21
While the first official day of the 81st General Convention hasn’t commenced yet, there are two days of activities leading up to the start of GC81. The day began with an opening press conference with Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, House of Deputies President Julia Ayala Harris, and Secretary of the General Convention and Executive Officer Michael Barlowe hosted by the Office of Public Affairs (see Presiding Bishop Curry pictured to the right from the press conference; photo credit:Randall Gornowich). For an excellent synopsis of the press conference, see the Episcopal News Service article here. To view the press conference recording, click here.
The day’s main activities consisted of two forums for the nominees and candidates for two elections: that of the 28th Presiding Bishop and of the President of the House of Deputies. In each forum, those up for election shared an introduction to their candidacy, articulating their vision for the role, and then answered questions on a variety of topics related to their experiences, plans, priorities, and perspectives.
Below you will find the links to both the video recordings of the forums and links to the coverage provided by the Episcopal News Service. Today was a fascinating and powerful introduction to the work ahead at GC81.
