Bishop’s Update: June 21

The view from the work area of our room at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville KY where we have gathered with thousands of other Episcopalians for the 2024 General Convention of The Episcopal Church. What a wonderful backdrop for the reading and writing I’ll be doing to keep up with all of the legislative work that faces us!

Sandy and I have already registered for #GC81 and have explored the exhibit hall. It has been great to reconnect with friends!

As we get going, I’ll try to offer some reflections on my experiences at General Convention. Please keep all of us in your prayers, and especially our deputation from The Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina!

Later that day…

General Conventions provide the opportunity for leaders from across The Episcopal Church to meet together and address matters of common concern. Last evening and again this evening, it was my privilege to help facilitate meetings between groups of seminary deans and bishops, two of the groups that share responsibility for forming women and men for lay and ordained ministry in every part of our church.

Tomorrow morning, I’ll meet for the first time in person with the members of a legislative committee I chair, as we shape recommendations for a series of resolutions having to do with formation and discipleship.
