What is the purpose of a prayer vigil?
A prayer vigil is a period of time dedicated to prayer over a specific cause or mission. Prayer vigils can last an hour to several days or even several months. The first known prayer vigil is written in the Bible in the book of Acts.
Acts 1:14 – “All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his brothers.” (NRSV)
