Step Five of L.A.T.I.N.O. (Level 3)
Step Five: Making a connection in terms of church activities.
There are many ways a parish can offer connections through church activities. The church can offer after-school tutoring as an excellent way to engage the Latino/Hispanic community, especially if youngsters need help from native English speakers. Opening the church up to Spanish-Language support groups is another way of engaging, especially on cross-cultural topics in which church members may also be involved. Another option might be a well-organized jobs bank with just compensation that creates a positive association with the church. Short-term food banks are also possible; however, long-term charity models are not generally conducive to community building.
